The challenge
Verifying that every customer who deducted TDS has actually deposited it meant comparing the Form 26AS PDF from the income tax portal against Tally records line by line.
What we built
Our tool extracts deductor-wise TDS directly from the 26AS PDF and reconciles it against Tally, using fuzzy name matching to handle the inevitable spelling differences between the two records, and produces a formatted reconciliation workbook. TDS credits are verified in minutes before filing, with no missed deductors. Fetching the 26AS file from the portal is now automated as well (see Automated Form 26AS Retrieval later in this catalogue), so the whole cycle from login to reconciled workbook runs unattended. When the department replaced the 26AS statement with Form 168, the reconciliation was rebuilt to read the new statement and to match on the deductor's PAN rather than on name - deriving the PAN from the GSTIN where the accounts do not carry it - which removed most of the manual matching the old name-based comparison needed. It now ships as a standalone Windows application with a simple screen: pick the two files and press one button.
The result
Before: line-by-line comparison. Now: minutes.
