The challenge
Monthly bank statements - often password-protected PDFs - were being manually entered into Tally.
What we built
We studied the client's own past Tally entries exported as XML, derived the ledger-mapping logic from them, and built a tool that reads each new bank statement PDF and produces an import-ready Tally XML file. The same approach now covers several bank formats, including UBS, HDFC and Canara: each bank's statement layout gets its own reader while the Tally output stays identical, so adding a new bank is a small, contained piece of work. Where a client's convention calls for it, all debits on a given date are consolidated into a single payment voucher rather than dozens of separate entries. Anything the tool cannot post with confidence - unusual credits, inter-account transfers, one-off items - is written to a separate exceptions report for manual review, so nothing is silently guessed at or quietly dropped. A full month of bank entries now lands in Tally in under a minute, posted to the right ledgers and dated by value date.
The result
Before: manual entry every month. Now: a month in under a minute.
