Legacy Database to Excel Extraction

Old (even password-protected) Microsoft Access databases extracted to Excel, one sheet per table.

The challenge

Years of payroll and operational data were locked inside old Microsoft Access databases - some password-protected and readable only through obsolete 32-bit drivers.

What we built

Our extraction tools open every database, recover all tables (working through a 32-bit bridge where needed), and export them to clean Excel workbooks - one file per database, one sheet per table. Historical data became fully accessible for the move to new software, with nothing left behind. The same extraction tool has since been packaged for a further client as a desktop screen and a command-line utility that chooses the right database engine automatically on Windows or Linux and macOS, with tables to skip and an optional database password set in a configuration file rather than in code.

The result

Before: data locked in old software. Now: fully accessible.
